Jute is a natural vegetable fiber made from the outer stem and skin of the jute plant. It is a long, soft, shiny fiber that has to be spun into coarse, strong threads. This plant requires up to eight cm of rainfall per week. It takes six months to mature. The fibers are first extracted by a process called retting. Retting consists of bundling stems along and immersing them in slow running water. After retting, the non-fibrous material is scraped off and workers pull the crucial fibers from the jute stem. This laborious job is known as stripping and has to be done by hand. Collected fiber is long, soft, and shiny. Because of the strength of the fibers, it can be spun into coarse, strong, durable yarn or thread. This yarn is then used to make the sturdy hessian or burlap and gunny cloth. We are making tote bag, gunny bag, bed sheet, sandal, etc. with these fabrics.

●It depends on natural rainfall rather than irrigation system.
●Less land require for cultivate jute in comparison to other crops.
●Jute also enhances the fertility of the soil it grows on for future crops.
●Jute plants can absorb around 15 tons of carbon dioxide and release 11 tons of oxygen during an average jute season.
Due to exceptional characteristics jute is biodegradable (it degrades biologically in 1 to 2 years) and compostable.
